ExpressOnline Courses

Q: Why doesn't the ExpressOnline course cover every topic on the test? (back)
Our ExpressOnline courses were designed to offer students with the best test preparation possible in a very short period of time. In order to maximize their effectiveness, we've kept them focused on the content and strategies that (a) you can master quickly and (b) will be the most useful on test day.

If a particular topic would take too long to cover or if it won't feature heavily on the test, we've left it out. If there are areas of the test that you would like to review, but that are not covered in your ExpressOnline course, we recommend that you enroll in one of our comprehensive online or classroom courses.

ExpressOnline students can upgrade to one of our Online or LiveOnline courses at any time by contacting the Princeton Review Online course office at 888.755.7737. The amount you paid for the ExpressOnline course will be credited towards the purchase of the larger course.

Online Course Tools

Q: What is the dashboard? (back)
"The dashboard" is our generic name for the special pop-up window that students use to access their online course tools. You can open your dashboard from the Student Tools page. (Click the link that appears under the "Your Courses" header.)

For more specific instructions on how to access your dashboard, select your user type from the choices below:

Q: How do I disable the pop-up blockers so that I can access my dashboard? (back)
Because the dashboard pops up in a new window, you'll need to disable any pop-up blockers in place on your computer before you can open up your dashboard.

Your computer may have multiple redundant pop-up blockers. If so, all of them will need to be disabled before you can continue.

For information on how to disable the pop-up blockers on your computer, select your browser from the list below:

If you have disabled all the pop-up blockers associated with your browser, but your pop-ups are still blocked, check these categories as well:

POP-UPS: Internet Explorer (back to pop-ups)
Follow the instructions below to disable any pop-up blockers associated with your Internet Explorer web browser.

      Browser Specific Pop-Up Blockers
Internet Explorer comes with a built-in pop-up blocker that’s extremely easy to turn on and off. To disable your IE pop-up blocker, follow these steps:

         1. select "Tools" from the File menu
         2. click "Pop-Up Blocker"
         3. in the mini-window that opens, click "Turn Off Pop-Up Blocker"

If the mini-window already says "Turn On Pop-Up Blocker", leave the settings as is and continue to the next step.

      Toolbar Specific Pop-Up Blockers
In addition to the standard pop-up blocker that you’ve already disabled, your copy of Internet Explorer may include additional pop-up blockers as a part of your custom toolbars. To identify the custom toolbars installed on your browser, follow these steps:

         1. select "View" from the File menu (or "Tools" for some versions of IE 7.0)
         2. click "Toolbars"
         3. examine the mini-window that opens

This is a list of Toolbars that are installed for your browser. Look for any toolbars that do NOT appear in the following list:

  • Address Bar
  • Explorer Bar
  • Favorites
  • Feeds
  • History
  • Links
  • Standard Buttons
  • Status Bar

Any toolbars NOT listed above are custom toolbars that were added to your browser after it was installed. There are hundreds of custom toolbars available, including "Google Toolbar," "Yahoo Companion," "AIM Search," and "MSN Toolbar," and many of these custom toolbars include built-in Pop-Up Blockers.

Toolbars with checks next to their names are currently displayed in your browser. But even a toolbar that’s unchecked can block pop-ups. Select each unchecked toolbar in turn, until all toolbars are displayed in your browser.

Look through the controls for each toolbar for anything related to pop-ups or to "ad blocking." Be sure to check any "options" or "settings" controls that you find on the toolbar. Disable any pop-up blocker controls which you find.

An Important Note About Pop-Up Blockers
Some pop-up blockers may provide an "allow pop-ups for this site" option. If you are having trouble viewing pop-ups, do not select this option, as it may not allow all of the pop-up features used in your dashboard.

POP-UPS: Firefox (back to pop-ups)
Follow the instructions below to disable any pop-up blockers associated with your Firefox web browser.

      Browser Specific Pop-Up Blockers
Firefox comes with a built-in pop-up blocker that’s extremely easy to turn on and off. To disable your Firefox pop-up blocker, follow these steps:

         1. select "Tools" from the File menu
         2. click "Options"
         3. select the "Content" icon at the top of the Options window
         4. un-check "Block pop-up windows" and click "OK"

If the “Block pop-up windows” option is already unchecked, leave the setting as is and continue to the next step.

      Toolbar Specific Pop-Up Blockers
In addition to the standard pop-up blocker that you’ve already disabled, your copy of Firefox may include additional pop-up blockers as a part of your custom toolbars. To identify the custom toolbars installed on your browser, follow these steps:

         1. select "View" from the File
         2. click "Toolbars"
         3. examine the mini-window that opens

This is a list of toolbars installed for your browser. Many toolbars include built-in pop-up blockers. Only the toolbars with checks next to their names are currently displayed in your browser, but even a toolbar that’s unchecked can block pop-ups. We need to check them all.

POP-UPS: Security Software (back to pop-ups)
Many computer and internet security programs include built-in pop-up blockers, including:

  • Norton Internet Security
  • Zone Alarm
  • McAfee Internet Security Suite

In most cases, you can disable the pop-up blockers associated with these programs without disabling the program itself.

Similarly, disabling the main program does not generally disable the pop-up blocker.

You can access the settings for your most security software through your system tray (the set of icons that appears in the bottom right corner of your screen by the clock). For instructions on how to disable the pop-up blockers included with your security software, please see the documentation that came with the software.

POP-UPS: Other System Tray Programs (back to pop-ups)
These are becoming less common, but you may have one or more standalone pop-up blocker programs which show up in your system tray (the set of icons that appears in the bottom right corner of your screen by the clock). You can usually identify these by the names, such as "Popzilla," "Ad Assassin," or some other name with "Pop" or "Ad" in it.

Many of these have a “disable” option that you can select by right-clicking on the icon. If not, click the icon to open the program and select the “disable” option found within.

Q: How do I navigate through all of my online course material? (back)
When you click on the "Your Course" or "Practice" buttons on your dashboard, you'll see a list of topics listed in the gray area. When you click on a topic, the list of associated lessons (and other related content) will appear in the white area to the right. Click on an individual item to launch it.

To scroll to the next list of topics, click on the triangular up and down arrows to the right of the gray box. The arrows will turn gray when you can't scroll any further in that direction.

Q: How do I download PDF files? (back)
Some of our online course materials are stored as PDF files. If you have Adobe Reader, Adobe Acrobat, or another PDF reader, you should be able to open up any of these files.

Adobe Reader is free for download from www.adobe.com.

If you have Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat installed, but you're having trouble opening them in your browser, follow these steps:

      [for Internet Explorer]

   1. close your browser
   2. launch Adobe Reader (or Acrobat)
   3. go to "Edit" > "Preferences..."
   4. select "Internet" from the list of categories
   5. un-check the "Display PDF in browser" box
   6. click "OK" and close Adobe Reader/Acrobat

      [for Firefox 1.5]

   7. open your browser
   8. go to "Tools" > "Options"
   9. click the "Downloads" tab
  10. click the "View & Edit Actions" button
  11. select "PDF" (in the "Extension" column)
  12. click the "Change Action" button
  13. select "Open them with the default application"
  14. click "OK" > "Close" > "OK" to close out all the windows

      [for Firefox 2.0+]

  15. open your browser
  16. go to "Tools" > "Options"
  17. click the "Content" tab
  18. Click the "Manage..." button under "File Types" at the bottom of the page
  19. select "PDF" (in the "Extension" column)
  20. click the "Change Action" button
  21. select "Open them with the default application"
  22. click "OK" > "Close" > "OK" to close out all the windows

When you make this change, PDF files will open in Adobe Reader/Acrobat itself, rather than in the browser.

Online Practice Tests

Q: What are the technical requirements necessary to take a test online? (back)
In order to access our online course content, you'll need to have a high-speed internet connection, and you'll need to access our website using Internet Explorer 6.0+ or Firefox 1.5+.

Q: Can I retake an online practice test? (back)
Absolutely! You can retake your online practice test as many times as you like. When you return to a completed test, you'll see a "review" and a "delete" button. If you click the delete button, your original answers will be deleted, and you'll be able to begin again.

Remember, if you delete your test, it's gone! You won't be able to go back and check your score or review your answers later.

(Our MCAT tests are the exception to this rule. You can retake an MCAT test as many times as you'd like, and we'll keep a copy of each set of answers you submit.)

Q: Why didn't my essay save? (back)
In order to make sure that your essays save properly, it is imperative that you click the *save* button before clicking next or allowing time to expire. If an essay isn't saved at the time of submission, there's no way to go back and recover the essay later.

Q: How long does it take for essays to be graded and returned? (back)
The Princeton Review will grade essays in the order that they are submitted. Most essays are scored within 3-5 days, but it may take a little longer during busier times of the year.

Q: How can I find out my essay scores? (back)
Once your essays have been graded, your scores and feedback will be uploaded to your Score Report.

Yes! When you return to a test that you have already taken, you will have the option to review your Score Report or to delete and retake your test. Unfortunately, there's no way to retake your test without deleting your test results first.

Q: Is the free test different from the ones you get when you enroll in a course or buy a book? (back)
Generally, no. The free test is one of the tests that you have access to once you buy a book or enroll in a classroom or online course.

(There is one exception: the SAT Demo test is a unique test that is not available anywhere elsewhere.)

Q: How long do I have access to the Online Demo for? (back)
You automatically have access to the Online Demo for 30 days. After 30 days, you will need to go back to http://demo.princetonreview.com and re-select your Online Demo from the drop down menu.
